Not Enough Churches...

I have never lived in a city with so many churches. There are churches on every corner of every street in this entire city. Nashville has been termed the "belt buckle" of the Bible Belt and I am beginning to understand why.

So when I first heard of a church being planted in Nashville, my initial, naive, thought was...why Nashville? Aren't there enough churches here? And then, about three and half weeks ago, my family and I moved to Nashville and began our new life here.
As we started building relationships with people that we live near, work with, and see consistently at the grocery store, parks, and Starbucks, we immediately heard, saw and sensed something that connected a lot of these people. Jesus was and is absent from their lives. In three short weeks of living here I have come to realize that there are not nearly enough churches in Nashville. There are countless faces in this city that don't bare the image of Christ. There are numerous hearts that have been untouched by the gospel of Jesus. Ears that have not heard his message of love. And yet, many of us see this city and claim it conquered for Christ. We believe that Jesus has penetrated the entire city.

We have learned that while it is true that Nashville has a lot of churches, we are far from claiming the victory over this city. We came to Nashville because we heard of a church here that was beginning to break into these untouched segments of society and culture with the power of the gospel of Jesus. We feel blessed and honored to be a part of Ethos, not because they are "cool" or successful. They are cool and successful because they are on mission in this city to Love God, Love people and awaken a movement. We are excited to be on mission along side this awesome church and these deeply spiritual people.
