You have richly blessed us with friendship, conversation, prayer and finances, and we hope we have blessed you in return. We are eager to share more of our story with you. Laura and I have been hard at work developing a long-term vision, mission and strategy for planting new churches in London. Please let us encourage you with scripture as we present a glimpse of our future work.
God loves and seeks his people. Israel’s story continually confirms this. Israel loved, sinned, repented and forgot; God loved, punished, forgave and reminded. In Nehemiah 8 we view a beautiful scene. Israel had recently returned to Jerusalem after spending 70 years in captivity because they had turned away from God. Seeking to rebuild their lives and reestablish their faith in Jerusalem, they asked Ezra to read from the Book of the Law. Verses 5 and 6 read, “Ezra opened the book…and as he opened it, the people all stood up…all the people lifted their hands and responded, ‘Amen! Amen!’ Then they bowed down and worshipped the Lord with their faces to the ground.”
England has a rich heritage of faith. After World War II much of Europe put God on trial and dismissed Christianity, resulting in the emergence of a post-Christian continent. But England’s influence and island mentality create a ripe ground for reintroducing Jesus, exemplified by the appearance of new successful mission efforts. Like Ezra, we will be “reopening the book” before a nation who lost it, though it lies entrenched in its heritage.
Our vision is to see hundreds of new churches for thousands of new Christians in the UK. We pray to reactivate belief. We go to restore lives back to Christ. We work to reconnect London’s global influence back into the mission of God.
This month we embarked upon this mission by moving to…Nashville? Yes, we will spend around two years here further developing specific skills for our work. Three areas we will be intentionally working on are:
- Powerful and captivating teaching and preaching
- Numeric and spiritual growth through the use of small groups
- Building a vibrant 20-30 year old demographic
Your Partnership is Key
We ask that you become a church planting partner. In a true partnership both sides are being blessed and filled; we want to bless you by:
- Sharing stories of transformation
- Involving you directly through campaigns, mission trips, guest teaching and preaching and more.
- We want to share with you our successes.
- We want you to be our first phone call when a need arises.
- We want our church to pray for you and share the passions you have.
We are blessed to be able to learn from the Ethos Church, a vibrant new church in downtown Nashville that is gifted in these areas. We are already seeing God’s hand at work during our three weeks here in Nashville, and for our prayer needs (see right) we invite you to begin praying for some of our new friends here.
We are excited, nervous and pumped about this work. We are praying diligently and working hard for this mission. Thank you for letting us share this precious part of our lives with you. Financial Needs
We have a vision for kingdom growth in the UK. We hold the vision; you have the resources. Together we will reach thousands of people who will then carry God’s mission into the world. We need:
$3000/m for our salary during our time in Nashville so that we can invest full-time hours in work with Ethos and church planter training $3000 for a survey trip to London in January 2013
Prayer Needs
Commit to spending 10 minutes a week in prayer for our time in Nashville as we prepare for London. Please pray for Brian, Matt, Max and Tony. These men are new friends in Nashville with whom we are sharing Jesus. Pray that in two years they are not only Jesus followers, but kingdom workers in Nashville.
